The following 1 new Statutory Instrument (SI) comes into force on 03/12/2020 and 01/01/2021 and 06/04/2021:

New Legislation:

  • December 2020 and January 2021 and April 2021: SI 2020 No. 1243 - The Town and Country Planning (General Permitted Development) (England) (Amendment) Regulations 2020 (pdf) (link).

Note: Within the above SI 2020 No. 1243, regulations 3, 12(1), 12(2), and 12(5) (which relate to articles 3(9A) and 3(9B) of the GPDO) come into force on 06/04/2021, regulation 4 (which relates to Part 4 Class BA of the GPDO) comes into force on 01/01/2021, and all of the other regulations come into force on 03/12/2020.

Other Notes:

  • The "Explanatory Memorandum" (link) to SI 2020 No. 1243 states the following:
    - "The General Permitted Development Order was consolidated in 2015. This is the twentieth amending instrument to the General Permitted Development Order. There are no current plans for a further consolidation.".
  • The "GPDO 2015 (Consolidated)" document on the Planning Jungle website has been updated to incorporate the above SI 2020 No. 1243, and currently incorporates a total of 20 SIs (i.e. the original SI + 19 amendment SIs).
  • Note: The "Explanatory Memorandum" refers to a "twentieth" amendment SI, whereas the Planning Jungle website has identified 19 amendment SIs. It should be noted that regulation 2 of the above SI 2020 No. 1243 includes a list of amendment SIs, but one of these SIs does not amend the GPDO 2015 (i.e. its inclusion within this list appears to be an error).
