New Legislation – relating to criminal justice and sentencing, including a consequential amendment to The Neighbourhood Planning (Referendums) Regulations 2012 (28/04/2022) …

The following 1 new Statutory Instrument (SI) came into force on 28/04/2022:

New Legislation:

  • April 2022: SI 2022 No. 500 - The Criminal Justice Act 2003 (Commencement No. 33) and Sentencing Act 2020 (Commencement No. 2) Regulations 2022 (pdf) (link).


  • The above SI 2022 No. 500 includes a consequential amendment to the following SI:
    - The Neighbourhood Planning (Referendums) Regulations 2012.
  • In particular regulation 5(2) and the Schedule Part 2 of the above SI 2022 No. 500 replace a reference to "the commencement of paragraph 24(2) of Schedule 22 to the Sentencing Act 2020" with a reference to "2nd May 2022".
  • The "Explanatory Note" (link) at the end of SI 2022 No. 500 includes the following information:
    - "Regulation 5 and the Schedule replace existing legislative references to the commencement of paragraph 24 of Schedule 22 to the 2020 Act and sections 154 and 282 of the Criminal Justice Act 2003 with the actual date of commencement (2nd May 2022). These replacements are made using the power in section 104(1)(a) of the Deregulation Act 2015 and spell out one of the effects of the amendments brought into force by regulations 3 and 4.".
